The area will be thoroughly numbed with local anesthesia to ensure no pain will be felt.
Once numb, the dentist will make an incision in the gum tissue and surrounding area to expose the wisdom tooth.
Using various tools and instruments depending on the need, the tooth will be loosened from the socket and extracted. However, if it is impacted, the dentist will require to divide the tooth into smaller pieces for ease of extraction.
After extraction, the area will be cleaned with a solution to remove any debris or risk of infection. Depending on the case, a stitch may be required to help the healing of the gum tissue.
Patient will lastly be required to bite on a gauze for an hour to apply pressure to aid in stopping the bleeding.
Follow up instructions will be given on dietary requirements as well as medications needed.
After a week or two, patients will return for a review to ensure the healing is progressing well and removing the stitches if necessary.
